Italy and India together to study the Earth

Rome, Italy - The mission Oceansat-2 will start in summer

(WAPA) - Indian space agency's (ISRO) mission scheduled for this summer and dubbed Oceansat-2 will carry an Italian instrument: ROSA (Radio Occultation Sounder for Atmosphere). Aim of the cooperation between ASI (Italian Space Agency) and India is the study of environmental conditions of the Earth and the atmosphere. This and other future agreements were discussed during a meeting on Friday in presence, for the first time in Italy, of ISRO president, Madhavan Nair, besides ISRO representative for Europe Radhika Ramachandran and other diplomats from the Indian embassy in Rome.

"The Indian space agency - Gabriella Arrigo of ASI's unit for international relationships stated - owns excellent scientific and technological capabilities. India is and will be even more in the future a country that is getting a growing importance within the international space scenario".

Among the other topics discussed during the meeting there was the usage of COSMO-SkyMed's data, that ISRO is asking since 2005. Furthermore the two agencies talked about a cooperation between operational centers creating links between Matera, Malindi, Bangalore and more. Also some problems were discussed, such ass the Italian difficulty to supply a second payload for the ROSA instrument and problems in transferring such technology to a country, India, that didn't ratify the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
