Al Qaeda was planning attacks during the G8
Rome, Italy - The aim would have been to hijack and destroy airliners of the participant countries
(WAPA) - Al Qaeda's terrorist network would have been planning to perform attacks during the G8 underway at L'Aquila, in Italy, according to what has been reported by the Israeli site "Debka" quoting sources of the American and German intelligence. The news has been reported today by the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica".
According to the Israeli source, several attacks would in fact have been planned on symbolic dates such as July 4 (the American Independence Day) and July 7 (anniversary of London's 2005 attacks). These failed, international Islamic terrorists would have also planned to attack the G8 meeting. The huge security measures deployed by the Italian defense anyway would have prevented them to directly perform their actions. For this reason, always according to "Debka", about 20 terrorists trained in Pakistan and Algeria are understood to have planned attacks to commercial aircraft from the countries that are participating to the G8.
