Airplane hits flock of birds in Australia, take off rejected

Adelaide, Australia - No problem for the passengers, substantial damages to the aircraft

(WAPA) - A Tiger Airways Australia Airbus A-320/200, flight TT882 from Adelaide to Bilinga Gold Coast (Australia), rejected take off today after the aircraft hit a flock of Galah (roseate cockatoos) birds.

At least one of these birds was ingested by one of the airplane's engines, causing substantial damages. After slowing down and interrupting the take off procedure, the aircraft has been driven back to the apron where it will undergo checks and repairs. Passengers have been rearranged on a back up A-320/200 that reached Bilinga with a 2.5-hour delay.

The runway was closed for some minutes to allow removal of debris generated by the collision and an approaching Singapore Airlines A-330 has been forced to circle the airport a couple of times before landing. (Avionews)
