Airborne drills in Russia
Moscow, Russia - From October 9 to 17
(WAPA) - Russia will hold a series of airborne drills starting today until October 17, involving at least six airplanes and helicopters, with 36 pilots, besides Moscow's Strategic Missile Forces. The operations will take place in Teikovo, in the Ivanovo region, about 250 km East of Moscow, as reported by the news agency "RIA Novosti".
Teikovo is the base of the 54th Strategic Missile Division, which hosts two battalions equipped with six intercontinental ballistic Topol-M (SS-27 Stalin) missile systems. These have a range of 11,000 km and represent one of Russia's nuclear power mainstays.
According to public information, the Strategic Missile Forces have an arsenal of 538 intercontinental ballistic missiles, including 306 SS-25 Topol (Sickle) and 56 SS-27 Topol-M missiles. (Avionews)
