Ground services workers' protest goes on at Turin-Caselle

Turin, Italy - Dozens of flights cancelled. Discussions freezed

(WAPA) - Also today dozens of flights (more than 60) have been cancelled at Turin-Caselle airport, due to the strike of the workers of the handling company Aviapartner, that had begun yesterday morning. The reason of the protest is the company's decision to layoff 24 of its 90 employees, to give some of its services in outsourcing.

Discussions with trade unions so far have failed. The proposal of 24 months of redundancy in place of the layoffs has been rejected, and there is little trust in the real intentions of HDL, the external company that would have to hire the ex Aviapartner workers (it would not hire all of them, and however not with the same contract conditions, the unions explained).

Meanwhile most airlines decided to rearrange their passengers on airplanes departing from different airports, where they have been carried by bus. The airline Blu Express had to face more difficulties as it kept delaying the departure of a flight initially scheduled for yesterday evening. Only when some passengers called the police the carrier decided to rearrange them on a new plane departing from Genoa.

SAGAT, Turin airport operator, stated in a note: "We warn passengers that, due to the continuation of handling personnel at Turin airport, also today there will be several delays and cancellations. We invite them to contact their airlines to get further details". (Avionews)
