Finmeccanica at the aeronautical show in Dubai 2009
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Collaboration between the hi-tech sector, the aeronautical industry, and of defence
(WAPA) - "Finmeccanica will participate in the aeronautic show which will take place in Dubai from the 15th to the 19th November. The Italian group, world leader in the aeronautical sectore, is present with their own companies Alenia Aeronautica (aerei, aerostrutture), Alenia Aermacchi (velivoli addestratori), AgustaWestland (elicotteri), Selex Communications (soluzioni per le comunicazioni sicure) e Selex Galileo (avionica, radar, Uav) each presenting its competencies in the aeronautic department.
The Finmeccanica's presence in the Dubai hall is significant in particular in light of the partnership agreement in the aeronautical hi-tech sector signed in October 2009 between Finmeccanica and Mubadala Development Company for the realisation of the structural components in composite material in the proximity of a factory in Al Ain, in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The official inauguration ceremony of the establishment took place on the 14th November 2009.
Besides, the selection by the government of the Arab Emirates of 48 aircraft advanced trainers M-346 Master of Alenia Aermacchi, that constitutes the most advanced answer to present demands of advanced training for military pilots, appoints a motive of great satisfaction for Finmeccanica. The selection has confirmed in fact the excellence of this aircraft with training of new generation, recently purchased by the national client, and it has represented an important success for the Italian aeronautical industry.
The Arab Emirates offer also potential opportunities even for the airline transport tattico C-27J of Alenia Aeronautica, which is emerging notable interests also in all the Gulf region. Its specific characteristics (multifunctionality and capacity to take off and landing on short runways and those shorter than 500metres) render it, in fact, particularly fit for the context. Alenia Aeronautica, world leader in the regional airline sector, intends also to promote its special versions of the Atr series: ATR-42MP and ATR-72MP (for maritime patrolling) and ATR-72ASW (for antisubmersible activities).
The United Arab Emirates represents a strategic coutnry for Finmeccanica that for this specific reason has inaugurated last year an office in Abu Dhabi. The companies of the Group have already been present for years on this territory and have numerous collaboration in the pipeline with their Emirates partner.
Selex Integrated Systems, together with Abu Dhabi society (Adsb), constituted in 2005 a joint venture in the defence and homeland security sectors. The joint-venture Adsi is at present focused on the realisation and on the integration of the system of combat of the six Baynunah corvettes destined to the marine military of the Arab Emirates, with which Adsi is already associated, in the ambit of Ghannatha programme, a contract for the supply of command and control systems that will go to equip the new fast patrolling units for the Emirates armed forces.
Finmeccanica was then selected from the military marine of the Arab Emirates for the supply - through its own Selex Integrated Systems, Oto Melara and Wass - naval and underwater systems which will go to equip a new unit, Abu Dhabi class, of the military marine of the Emirates.
Alenia Aeronautica is the major Italian aeronautic industry - and amongst the principle ones in the world - active in the protection, development and production of civil airlines of military transport C-27J Spartan that presents an extreme operative flexibility, possibility to develop day/night operations and in any weather condition as well as an excellent cost-effective; the C-27J Spartan moreover will take part in flight demonstrations.

Alenia Aermacchi is the company leader at European level in the design, in the development and in the production of supplemented systems of training. Between the models in exhibition they appear: the trainers M-346 Master and M-311, the new solution for the phase jet fast basic / advanced of the training program pilots; the MB-339 Bread, personalised version of the trainer MB-339 advanced used at the acrobatic patrol of the Italian aeronautics, the 'Tricolour Arrows'; the SF-260, the selector and basic trainer more used of the world. An aircraft M-346 Master will be shown besides in the static Finmeccanica area and the first pilot lot aircraft will take part from the demonstrations in flight.
AgustaWestland is a market leader in the helicopter world having the most complete gamma helicopters able to satisfy the demands of both commercial and military clients. The company has already sold over 50 helicopters of several types and for different applications. The Eau has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Aviation for the supply of services of support for his helicopters. Amongst the models in exhibition appear: the AW-139 VIP; the AW-139 Coast Guard; the offshore AW-139; Grand Vip; the AW-101 VIP. The AW-139 is the middle helicopter biturbina multilist most sold in the world and it has obtained an overtime work happened in the region of the Gulf by different missions between whom I carry VIP, offshore transport and research and help as well as government tasks. The Grand is a modern light helicopter biturbina able to establish a new standard in his category offering performances and space in cabin own of helicopters of superior category. The AW-101 is a modern helicopter triturbina of the class of 16 tons able to satisfy numerous operative requirements for terrestrial and naval operations.
Selex Communications is a leading company in the advanced solutions for the secure communications between the transportable satellite systems, tactful Data Link and wide band, systems of identification, SDR platforms and the equipment able to inhibit improvised explosives checked remote, able to guarantee the protection interforces and the interconnection of the systems in operative scenery.
