O'Leary: "Ryanair will overtake Alitalia in 2010"
Rome, Italy - In March new links from Ciampino to Seville and Krakow
(WAPA) - Ryanair's CEO, Michael O'Leary, underlined the importance of the carrier in the Italian market. "While all large airlines are losing passengers and reducing capacity, our traffic has grown in Italy, in 2009, by 22% to 18 million passengers. By 2010 we are going to overtake Alitalia to become the number 1 airline in the country".
The statement has been made today in Rome during the presentation press conference of the new routes of the carrier from Ciampino to Seville (Spain) and Krakow (Poland). The two links will be respectively activated on March 3 (with 4 weekly frequencies) and on March 2 (with 3 weekly frequencies).
The goal of the low-cost airline is to attract 150.000 new visitors to Rome, to reach on the airport 3.5 million passengers in 2010, creating 3,500 jobs. With the new solutions the total services offered by the Irish carrier in Rome-Ciampino grows to 31.
"These new routes -O'Leary explained- have been studied and offer a great potential to the city of Rome. Krakow is a main European catholic center, is the city were John Paul II was Bishop, and so there will be much religious tourism; Seville instead can generate a large flow of tourists between Spain and Italy".
