US Airways delays deliveries of 54 Airbus aircraft

Washington, USA - "But we will modernizing our fleet anyway"

(WAPA) - US Airways (UA) has delayed to 2013 the delivery of 54 Airbus aircraft, scheduled between 2010 and 2012, as stated by the airline in a note. UA has also remembered that it has already postponed the delivery of the A-350 XWB to 2017, initially scheduled in 2015.

The carrier this way hopes to save US$150 million in 2009, that would become 450 from now to 2010.

"These moves are part of our continuing efforts to improve our balance sheet and return the Company to profitability", the airline's CEO Doug Parker commented.

"Although we will slow deliveries during the next three years, over that period we will continue to modernize our fleet, which is already one of the youngest in the United States", said Chief Financial Officer Derek Kerr.

UA will in fact take delivery of four Airbus aircraft in 2010 and 24 in 2011, as scheduled, having found the necessary financing, Kerr added, "This is a more manageable delivery rate given the current economic environment".

For the 2010 deliveries the airline achieved credit for a total of about US$275 million. (Avionews)
