Car runway incursion at Milan-Malpensa, aircraft takes the sky again
Milan, Italy - Possibility of a voluntary action has not been ruled out
(WAPA) - Fear and disconcert yesterday at Milan-Malpensa airport when an Airbus A-320/200 aircraft, performing a Vueling flight from Barcelona with 130 passengers on board, was forced to abruptly take the sky again when it had almost landed, due to a sanitary car runway incursion. The maneuver was performed safely and the airplane landed without further problems some minutes later. The car's driver has been arrested by the police.
The hypothesis currently being analyzed is that the man did it on purpose, as it seems unlikely that he could have lost his way ending on the runway right where an aircraft was about to land. In this case the quick reaction of air traffic controllers and of the pilot avoided a possible tragedy, but the event raises concern about airport security issues. (Avionews)
