Delta and V Australia towards joint venture

Brisbane, Australia - Pending US Department of Transport's approval

(WAPA) - Delta Airlines and V Australia (Virgin Blue) aim to start a code-share agreement on transpacific flights already by mid-next year, as announced by Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey. The move would be part of a wider joint-venture plan between the two carriers, for which they were granted approval by the Australian regulators last month.

The deal, if ratifies also by the US Department of Transport, would strengthen the international links of both the airlines, besides reducing the expected over-capacity on the Australia-USA market.

While waiting to operate jointly on transpacific routes, Delta and V Australia will code-share on domestic flights since December 5: the Australian airline will have its code on Delta US flights, while the American carrier will place its code on Australian Virgin Blue flights. (Avionews)
