Airplanes and tenders: Alenia-Aermacchi M-346 and Yakolev Yak-130 will compete for Philippines
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - South Korean KAI T-50 enters the arena too
(WAPA) - The presence of Rosoboronexprt at the Kuala Lumpur exhibition (AVIONEWS) has brought the first results: Philippines will allow Yakolev to participate in the tender for a new trainer jet. This is good news for Yakolev and its Yak-130, since the tender will provide 6 trainer aircraft of this kind.
The tender aims to replace the retired US-built Northrop F-5 Tiger fighters: main competitors will be South Korea with its KAI T-50 and Alenia-Aermacchi with the M-346 "Master" trainer jet. It should be noted that Alenia-Aermacchi has already won against KAI in Israel (AVIONEWS).
"We regard this tender as an opportunity to expand our influence in the region and to demonstrate the capabilities of our military equipment" Rosoboronexport said.
The Yakolev Yak-130 is a highly maneuverable small aircraft (very similar to the Alenia-Aermacchi M-346). The aircraft has a range of about 2000 km and a maximum payload of 3000 kg, consisting of almost the entire range of Russian and Western weapons.
The Yak-130 has also been chosen as the basic trainer aircraft for the Russian Air Force, for which first deliveries started in 2009. (Avionews)
