(WAPA) - At the "Web Summit" -a conference on new technologies that is taking place in Lisbon (Portugal)- Jeff Holden Chief Product Officer of the California based company Uber announced a partnership with NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) to develop systems for low-altitude air traffic management of small aircraft without pilots.
Uber provides a service of car transport -connecting private drivers and passengers- in many Countries and is now investing in new systems for city transport, in particular a service for low-cost air taxi service called UberAir, which was presented a few months ago and that should be fully operational for the Los Angeles "2028 Summer Olympics". In the occasion of the event yesterday Holden said that times might be considerably shorter and first experimental flights could take place in Los Angeles, besides Dallas and Dubai, already in 2020.
The system uses an electric aircraft with vertical take-off and landing, able to transport four passengers among specific heliports, inside an integrated system of air and terrestrial vehicles: in the future Uber foresees that the aircraft will be without pilot. About the construction of the tilt-rotor (plane+helicopter) according to what is reported by the press the company would have come into agreements with Aurora Flight Sciences of the Boeing Group and with Embraer, Mooney, Bell Helicopter and Pipistrel Aircraft.
