Italian Civil Defense Department: Canadair airplane in Corsica
Rome, Italy - The request by the French Government due to a temporary stop of the aircraft
A Canadair CL-415 airplane of the Fire Brigade is in Corsica at the Ajaccio Airport from this morning, ready to intervene to support the work by the firefighting teams at ground. It has been activated in the context of the European project named "Better Use of Forest Fire Extinguishing Resources by Italy" coordinated by the Civil Defence Department. The airplane, whose transfer is funded by the European Commission for 85%, while the costs on site are ensured by the Country that asked the assistance, has been activated through the Civil Defence Department, from Brussels upon request by French Government due to a temporary stop of their aircraft. This Canadair, in the period in which is not used upon European request in one of the other EU countries in situations of criticality, is available on the Italian territory and is added to those predicted in the context of the national fleet.
