Civil Defense Department: Italian Canadair aircraft in Portugal to support and fight fires
Rome, Italy - The plane moved to this Country, after to have operated in Corsica in the last days
The Italian Canadair CL-415 airplane of the Fire Brigade, activated in the context of the European project named "Better Use of Forest Fire Extinguisghing Resources by Italy" and organized by the Civil Defence Department, moved in Portugal, where wide fires are interesting different areas of the Country (in particular the Madeira isle), after that the plane operated in Corsica in the last days. In this Country, the aircraft -activated from Brussels upon request by the French Government due to the temporary stop of their Canadairs- operated to support the work by firefighting teams at ground from August 5 to yesterday, when the new request arrived from Lisbon through the European civil defence mechanism. Once the activities will be completed abroad and until to potential new exigencies by the EU Countries, the Canadair will return to add to the State fleet (airplanes and helicopters) employed in the firefighting campaign.
