Tripoli, start at works for the redevelopment of the airport
It should become the hub for flights between Europe and Africa
"We want to be able to make the airport of Tripoli the transit hub for the flights between Africa and Europe, as well as the hub of tourism in our State", this is the hope of Fayez al-Sarraj -prime minister of the government of Libya of Tripoli- expressed during the press conference that inaugurates the start of the reconstruction works of the airport, closed after the armed clashes in 2014 that had caused extensive damage. The works will cost about 79 million euros, which will be used to build two terminals one for domestic flights and other one for international ones, covering an area of about 30 thousand square meters.
The work will be managed by the Aeneas consortium made up of Italian companies in the field of airport infrastructures, which will work together with local companies, thus fostering the resumption of the Tripoli labor market and the transfer of Italian know-how to Libyan companies. It will be important because in the plan of al-Sarraj there would be to make sure that the airlines of the world resume to use the capital of Libya as a stopover, thus allowing the economic recovery of the area.
In addition there would be a willingness to strengthen the Libyan tourist sector that has never been fully exploited, to do this it will be necessary to secure not only the airport but also Libya. A first step could be to ensure the safety of airport infrastructures and flights, so that once the airport of Tripoli has been restructured, it will be possible to return to fly the great air carriers of the world.
