Croatia: China interested in Osijek airport
The reason? The great potential for the transport of goods
China would not want to invest only in the port sector of the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, but would be willing to increase its presence also in European airports as in that of Osijek in Croatia. The local authorities and Shs Aviation -the management company- would meet with the China state-owned China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), strongly interested in controlling the city's airport.
The largest construction company in the world for profit currently also manages the airport of the Slovenian city of Maribor, but for that of Osijek the project would be much more important, as stated by the Deputy Mayor Boris Pilizota: "We have an important strategic position with four important cities economically distant 250 kilometers each". The airport also has "huge potential for freight", which is very important for potential Chinese investors.
A first step is this meeting to lay the foundations of a potential visit of the airport by CSCEC, which should confirm its interest would lead to negotiations with the Croatian state to detect and relaunch the infrastructure.
