Buenos Aires Airport: $280 million for the extension
It will be approved by a popular referendum
At the "Jorge Newbery" Airport in Buenos Aires the construction sites could be opened soon to start work on expanding the airport, used together with the "Ministro Pistarini" -the main Argentine- for national and regional flights. The metropolitan airport that rises inside the "Palermo" central district will be redesigned by lengthening the runway, building a new underground parking lot and transforming the entire area facing the Rio de la Plata into a park, in a project that will require an investment of about 280 million dollars. In addition, the road and pedestrian area of the district will also be modified to improve traffic and safety. The works -which will have to be approved by referendum- should allow Buenos Aires and Argentina to better meet the increases expected in the near future of the number of passengers in transit, being able to count on the presence of a second avant-garde airport that could attract international connections in competition and in conjunction with the one located in Ezeiza, 22 km south-east of the city.
