Heathrow Airport: in March hearing against the construction of the third runway
Appeals lodged by local associations and environmentalists
A hearing will be held in march at the London Court to assess the appeals filed against the project for the construction of a new runway -the third- at Heathrow Airport, approved by the UK government with a parliamentary vote last June in a total investment program close to 14 billion pounds (15.87 billion euros). The legal representatives of the government and of the management company of the busiest airport in Europe will find themselves in court against the environmental associations and those of the residents of the area, who ask not to proceed with the work not to increase the environmental and acoustic pollution of the area. The construction site should open in 2021 and close in 2026, favoring the increase in air transport in the United Kingdom to China and the United States, thus stimulating economic growth, especially after leaving the European Union. The ownership of the airport -Ferrovial, Qatar Investment Authority and China Investment Corporation- said it was concentrating only on completing the bureaucratic process to start work, but the court could block or ask to change the project.
