Profumo: "Leonardo partner of Alitalia? I do not understand the meaning"

Also denied a possible merger with Fincantieri

During the inaugural ceremony of the "Leonardo Foundation - Civilization of Machines" held this morning at the MAXXI in Rome and which was also present the president of the Council of Ministers Giuseppe Conte, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Italian aerospace and defense company Alessandro Profumo answered a question concerning a possible entry of Leonardo into Alitalia. "I would not understand the meaning of a participation", was Profumo's reply, which effectively denied any possible involvement in the operation by the Italian government, still looking for public partners to work with Ferrovie dello Stato in relaunching the carrier.

Furthermore, the CEO has also denied the possibility that there are new aggregations to grow in size Leonardo, specifying as "the strength in our world, in the world of Defense, aerospace and security is not related to the absolute dimensions but the skills that are on specific areas" . He also referred to Leonardo as "one of the largest companies in the world for helicopters, training aircraft, radar systems and defense electronics". Statements that seem to close to any possibility of fusion between Leonardo and Fincantieri, and that follow those of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte who has denied any government study for this union between the two companies.
