Kenya: strike blocks Nairobi airport
Activities in recovery after the intervention of police
From midnight of today all planes that had to take off from Nairobi airport, in Kenya, remained on the ground due to a strike called by the unions of the African country, that demanded for the workers an increase of salaries and protections from the State. In what is one of the main airports of East Africa hundreds of people were blocked because the strike, while the police intervened to calm down -according to agencies in Kenya- the demonstrations of employees. Travellers were driven out of the airport terminals and gathered in adjacent areas, allowing the police to "evict" the strikers in order to reopen the airport, allowing the aircraft to restart. In total, between arrivals and departures 24 flights were cancelled during strike hours; the situation still remains difficult, as the protest could resume again without warning.
