Italian unions: general strike on July 24, 26 in aircraft and transport
This was decided by the national executives of Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti
"National strike on 24 July in all sectors of local public transport, rail, freight and logistics, maritime and ports, highways, taxis, car hire and on 26 July in all aircraft and transport". The national executives of Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti have deliberated it "to give support to the unitary platform of proposals 'Let's get the country back on track' addressed to the Government".
"For the first time in recent history - affirms the general secretary of Filt Cgil Stefano Malorgio- the Government that stands out for the absence of strategic responses, has never convened the trade unions and has done so only for sporadic meetings for individual crisis management. Following this need for choices -asks the national director of Filt Cgil- it must open a point-by-point comparison on infrastructure, transport policy and rules and arrive at the signing of a Transport Pact that starts from the update of the general plan transport and logistics and taking into account the mobility needs of people and goods".
"Italy, from an infrastructural point of view", explains the general secretary of Fit Cisl, Salvatore Pellecchia, risks becoming the Cinderella of Europe if the works that make it travel between the south and north at two speeds are not unlocked. The transport regulation system is penalizing both workers (men and women) in the sector. It is enough to observe what happened in air transport, where, as traffic grew, a series of companies, instead of developing, entered into crises that are still lasting. At the same time, in the railway sector, liberalization has opened up infrastructures without guaranteeing reciprocal conditions for Italian companies towards European countries. Furthermore, the declarations of the transport regulation Authority (ART) are cause for concern about the measures that should affect RFI, while it is not clear what is meant by 'updating the concessionary relationship' for highways'".
"The country and the transport workers need rules, planning and programming -says the general secretary of Uiltrasporti, Claudio Tarlazzi. We are united to win the battle that we started with the national strikes last May. This is not a strike against the two parties to the Government, but it is a political strike against the immobilism of this Government. Without modern and efficient transport, with all the workers protected by the National Collective Labor Agreement, this country will not be able to start again".
