Airplane and transport. Italian Mit: strike on 26 July reduced from 24 to 4 hours
After meeting yesterday at the ministry
A discussion table was held yesterday at the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport with the national trade unions that proclaimed a land and sea transport strike for today and aircraft for next Friday.
Present at the meeting, Minister Danilo Toninelli, recalling how the right to strike is guaranteed by the Constitution and respected by this Government, asked the trade unions for a gesture of responsibility with respect to the delicate period of Summer season and also considering the problems registered on the route Rome-Florence railway yesterday. On the other hand, he announced that at the table yesterday there will be several other thematic tables at MIT on the problems of the transport sector, to think together about solutions.
The unions sat at the table confirmed the two protests. The Mit therefore, to reconcile the respect of the right to strike with the guarantee of services for citizens in such a particular period, has issued an order to reduce the strike time for Friday 26 July to 4 hours of abstention from work.
As the minister also said in the meeting he had yesterday morning, the Government and the MIT have always been committed to meeting the demands of the social partners, always proving to be open to dialogue with the unions, as is also shown by the fact that in the last year the ministry has never prescribed any sector, and has instead worked to avoid strikes by solving the underlying problems. It is no coincidence that, as recently recorded by the Commission guaranteeing the implementation of the law on strikes in essential public services, with which MIT also signed a collaboration protocol, in the last year the conflict in the even critical transport sectors is decreased, especially with regard to the aviation sector and urban transport.
