Evacuated Hawaiian airport for fire
Civil homes are also involved
Today in Hawaii, Kapalua–West Maui airport and some neighboring houses were evacuated following a fire. The flames spread over more than 400 hectares of land and the fire department said that 40 men, several helicopters, tankers, bulldozers were deployed and an emergency shelter was opened in a local center.
Civilians are also participating in aid operations, but Mayor Michael Victorino said: "I strongly urge our residents and tourists to avoid the Kapalua area while our rescuers fight the fire. A prayer for families and for our public security staff".
Kapalua–West Maui Airport is located 9 km north of Lahaina, in the county of Maui. Most flights come from other Hawaiian islands, for commercial services, air taxis and civil aviation.
