Lufthansa: last occasion to enter the Alitalia game

Knots to be dissolved before expiry

Today Lufthansa could agree an investment in the capital of the Alitalia company for a worth of around 150 million Euros. The agreement is conditioned by two variables: the two-day protests of the independent German trade union UFO with about 2500 flights cancelled between 7 and 8 November and the possible surplus of 500 workers of the Austrian Airlines belonging to the Group. The redundancies are a central theme also for the agreement concerning the Italian carrier: the arrival of Lufthansa would involve around 5-6 thousand with a consequent loss of jobs (see AVIONEWS).

This morning the managing director Carsten Spohr (see AVIONEWS) will explain to the analysts the accounts and will have to declare for Alitalia the choice between commercial offer or equity interventions. This is the last possible occasion for the group that closed the last quarter with a business operating income of 1.3 billion euros, a decrease of 100 million compared to 2018.
