Alitalia: also Atlantia leaves

As anticipated by AVIONEWS, it's the eighth extension

Should these commissioners be given the new loan?

Atlantia also withdraws from Alitalia. As anticipated by AVIONEWS, it will arrive at the eighth extension for the presentation of the binding offer. According to the Benetton Group, there are no conditions to join. A blow to the former flag carrier, which finds itself one day before the deadline with only the presence of Delta, Fs and Mef (Ministry of Economy and Finance). A potential partner who would have paid € 375 million in the "Newco" and 37.5% of the capital is therefore missing. A situation that throws Alitalia between "Scilla and Cariddi", also considering Lufthansa's refusal to declare that it does not show any interest in joining the consortium unless there have been profound restructuring and downsizing (see AVIONEWS).

In the note by the Board of Directors of Atlantia, however, it would seem that it is not all lost: "In any case, the willingness to continue the confrontation for the identification of the industrial partner and for the definition of a shared, solid and long-term business plan for the recovery remains firm of Alitalia" (see AVIONEWS).

And as far as the commissioners are concerned, one wonders: is it still appropriate to let them manage the new loan?
