Alitalia (2). Possible EU survey of EUR 400 million loan

"We received the first complaints"

New sources of tension for Alitalia from the EU front: "there are risks of opening a second investigation in the wake of the new EUR 400 million loan". This is mentioned by Margrethe Vestager, vice-president of the EU Commission and Responsible for Competition and Digital Technology, during a meeting with the press. In an interview on "Il Sole 24 Ore" she said: "We have received the first complaints. We are very aware of the issue of fair treatment. The carriers are having difficulties in Europe. We are therefore in close contact with the new Government. When a new executive takes office, we give it time to appropriate the dossier. More generally, for any company that wants to develop a new business plan, it is important to know whether we have identified State aid or not, because if we find illegal aid, these will have to be recovered. If you do not want to transfer this burden to the new owner, you must demonstrate economic discontinuity between the old and the new firm".
