Russia: for the beginning of 2019 contract to produce the A-100 aircraft
The new Russian AWACS close to enter in service
Between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019, the contract between the Russian defense ministry and the UAC (United Aircraft Corporation) aerospace company for the production of the AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) Beriev A-100 aircraft, developed on the basis of Ilyushin Il-76/MD90A, could be signed.
The announcement was made yesterday by the president of UAC Yuti Slyusar, who recalled how the aircraft will be able to detect and trace all the possible targets in the air and to coordinate the operations with the combat airplanes in flight, replacing the "dated" Beriev A-50 supplied to the Russian air force. The radar developed for the new AWACS can be controlled in movements from inside the plane, where you can raise and lower the dome as well as manage the rotation that can reach 5 revolutions per second, thus improving the radar capabilities of the 100. Furthermore, it should be able to detect enemy aircraft up to 600 kilometers away and ships 400 kilometers away, and on board it should have a command center also for electronic warfare equipment and for information gathering.
