Air traffic controllers. Strike in Italy next February 15 postponed

The note issued by the Ministry and the statement by Minister Toninelli

The 24-hour strike in Italy by the air traffic controllers who had been called by some unions started off at the moment. During the meeting between the air traffic controllers' unions and Enav (Italian Flight Assistance Company), resumed last night at the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport (MIT), the parties agreed to temporarily suspend the implementation and the effects of the new Enav industrial plan to allow the achievement of an overall agreement. In light of this the unions that had called for the strike on February 15th have deferred it to a date to be decided.

"I hope -the Italian Transport Minister Danilo Toninelli said it- that we find a meeting point between the social partners and the company that takes into account first of all the safeguarding of jobs and the quality of life of workers, without forgetting the essential need to guarantee the safety of flights and citizens travelling".

The Italian union Fit-Cisl had issued a note yesterday evening on Enav:

"As negotiations with the Ministry of Transport are proceeding, we risk a flop because we are not planning a solution that goes in the direction indicated by Undersecretary Siri and that is the restructuring of the industrial plan: what is emerging risks being a mess" , states the Fit-Cisl while the negotiations between the unions and ENAV at the MIT were under way.

"As Fit-Cisl -the Transport Federation continues- we do not have time problems, but we want a concrete solution that safeguards the company's prerogatives and at the same time protects the rights of all workers (men and women), avoiding phenomena of indiscriminate mobility and closures that could reduce management potentialities. If solutions emerge that would penalize employees without an industrial criterion, we will evaluate the opportunity to mobilize the category. We therefore hope that the announced reshaping of the industrial plan will take place".
