Fincantieri: training agreement signed
In the civil, industrial and information engineering sectors
The CEO of Fincantieri Giuseppe Bono and the Rector of the University of Calabria Gino Mirocle Crisci today signed an agreement aimed at establishing new cooperation relationships in the field of civil, industrial and information engineering.
The agreement will allow Fincantieri to enter into relation with one of the major Southern Italy universities, an excellent opportunity to reach out to a pool of resources in terms of academic and research standards, as well as of students ready to exploit the company’s opportunities in Italy and abroad. In fact, the initiative intends to achieve a wider synergy between the training university offer and the needs of the labour market, to improve the educational and research processes quality of both parties, providing young people a number of innovative academic courses.
Furthermore, the agreements envisage that the University and Fincantieri undertake to carry out joint initiatives, by providing their skills and expertise through several actions, such as seminars and lectures to be held by the company’s managers as part of the University’s degree courses, thesis projects to be carried out within the company, visits and internships in the Group’s premises, training and guidance activities aimed at encouraging access in the labour market, as well as establishing common research programs.
Besides, special attention will be given to the development and testing of new materials, to material joining techniques, to non-destructive techniques for the structural diagnostics and their application in the naval field. The techniques and technologies known as Industry 4.0 will also be relevant. Other activities may relate to the use of technologies for the production of renewable and sustainable energy, and more in general for the decarbonisation of maritime transport.
The Rector of the University of Calabria Gino Mirocle Crisci commented: “We are particularly proud of this agreement, because it is fully consistent with the spirit of the targets outlined by the university, training and scientific research, but above all with its "third mission" namely external opening with activities of knowledge transfer. Over the years, the University of Calabria has strongly focused on a very precise goal: creating a constructive dialogue between the companies and the academic community. The agreement we have signed today with an international partner like Fincantieri is an example of this, as it is aimed at developing technologies within research projects carried out by academia in close cooperation with the experts of the international leader in ship design and construction and in high-tech naval shipbuilding. This will ensure in the short term that our students and researchers interact with the industry in a direct and concrete way. We hope that in the near future it will also lay the groundwork for attracting investments even in our area”.
The CEO of Fincantieri, Giuseppe Bono, stated: “Fincantieri is constantly engaged in researching and studying cutting-edge solutions to offer new concepts to our clients. Thanks to this agreement, which aims at contributing to the training of young people giving them a regular work perspective, we will be able to focus particularly on specific engineering-related themes, crucial to the design of new platforms”. Bono concluded: “Moreover, in the light of the far-reaching digitalization processes that Fincantieri is carrying out on several fronts, particular attention will be given to the activities related to the computerization of the core processes and products of Fincantieri, such as cyber security and industrial automation systems”.
