Flight MH17, marked arrest warrants for 4 people
Joint Investigation Team indicted three Russians and one Ukrainian for shooting down the plane
Dutch-led international investigation committee charged four people, three Russians and one Ukrainian, for shooting down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. Investigators have issued the corresponding international arrest warrants for Igor Girkin, Serghei Dubinsky and Oleg Pulatov, while the Ukrainian is Leonid Kharchenko. "Interfax" agency reported it.
The plane, from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed near Donetsk, eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014. The attack killed 298 people including passengers and crewmembers, most of them were Dutch people (see AVIONEWS). The three Russians involved all have a background in Moscow security services and were active in self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic. Ukraine will try to arrest the Ukrainian suspect, according to general prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko. The trial should begin in Netherlands in March 2020. By that date the indictes could be even more.
Russia does not recognize the results of investigations carried out by the Joint Investigation Team. Kremlin, which denies any involvement, stated that the investigations are not objective and are based only on information obtained from Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin pointed out that Moscow will recognize its conclusions only if it takes an active part in.
