Japan: China potentially more dangerous than North Korea
Beijing's large investments in the military sector
During a press conference in Tokyo yesterday, Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono stated that China is making substantial military investments and this would make it potentially more dangerous than North Korea. "The People's Republic of China is organizing air and sea resources more frequently in the western Pacific and the Tsushima Strait in the Sea of Japan", he added.
Considerations that have been welcomed by Beijing to the point that spokesman Geng Shuang replied: "China does not accept Japan's 'unfounded criticisms' of its normal national and military defense activities".
The "Rising Sun" has meanwhile increased the expenses to counter the military progress of Beijing and Pyongyang, such as the North Korean missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads repeatedly used to to threaten the United States and North Korea (see AVIONEWS); it also purchased nine American-made Lockheed Martin F-35 Stealth fighter aircraft and invested 115.6 billion yen (about a billion US dollars) in military research. However, Chinese military supplies are expected to increase by 7.5% this year, more than three times the Japanese ones.
