Lufthansa (2): "We don't change our mind about Alitalia"
Investments only in the event of restructuring of the Italian carrier
In a conference call scheduled today (see AVIONEWS), Lufthansa's CEO Carsten Spohr told analysts that they consulted him about Alitalia: "First it must be restructured, then we invest. The people from the current property must be put out before we can consider ourselves committed. Lufthansa does not change line. There must be a Newco for our interest. We believe that the overlap of the carrier market makes commercial agreements more interesting".
In the letter sent to the Mise (Ministry of Economic Development) and to Fs (Ferrovie dello Stato) the German Group announced that they were willing to join the group with a "considerable investment", higher than those proposed by others in the past, but placed some conditions including the revision of the fleet and a substantial number of redundancies of over 5000 people (see AVIONEWS).
