Air Europa, wages couldn't be paid on September 30
The carrier is awaiting substantial economic aid
A new alarm, yet another. As if the current complicated situation of the Spanish airline Air Europa wasn't enough, another problem is adding. In recent days, local media spread the news that there could be a bailout by the Madrid government with a loan of 500 million euros (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). Now the risk is about the payment of September salaries. Iberian newspapers explored the matter today, on Monday September 14, 2020, analyzing the facts.
Airline is pressing to receive the aforementioned aid, but then in October it could also run out of money to guarantee staff salaries. Problems of Air Europa began last March, in conjunction with the coronavirus pandemic; from that moment accounts never recovered. Among other things, this company has to face a cost between 25 and 30 million euros for the rental of a single aircraft. The alarm has increased in these hours following the statements of Sepi (Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales), according to which the financial situation could be even worse than what the accounts show.
