British Airways "leaves" Gatwick in favor of Heathrow

Carrier wants to focus on just one London airport

Gatwick or Heathrow? The doubt is not at the same of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, but British Airways airline reasoned a lot about it. In the last few hours, the final choice arrived and British company will gradually reduce its activities at the London-Gatwick airport, giving priority to Heathrow (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). The goal is to change businesses and deal with the coronavirus pandemic in a different way; in addition, according to local media reports, the new CEO Sean Doyle (see AVIONEWS) would be increasingly convinced of this preference for the capital's airport.

In particular, the aim is to curb the collapse in business travel by strengthening the offer of departures from Heathrow to Barbados and Bermuda. Something similar happened last week, when British Airways moved flights from London to the Maldives and "sidelined" Gatwick. Departures from Heathrow to both destinations had been missing for a very long time, to be precise for 15 (Barbados) and 30 (Bermuda) years. In the future, the same could happen with New York but it is still too early to say no to hypotheses of this type.
