Qantas-American Airlines, joint-venture extended until 2026?

Both carriers want to renew the partnership

Other five years: this is the goal that air carriers Qantas, the Australian national airline, and American Airlines would aim for to extend the strategic partnership expiring in 2021 (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). The joint-venture is scheduled to run until next March, but both sides are confidently looking to 2026. Airlines in question, as reported by the Australian media, would have turned to the Canberra authorities for the official extension, but what exactly does the agreement you are talking about foresee? Sydney and Forth Worth airlines can work together for mutual benefits on routes from Australia and New Zealand to the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In practice, the various fares are coordinated and the same routes are made more “practicable”; the additional five years were designed to support the airline industry which is currently in trouble due to the coronavirus pandemic (see AVIONEWS). American Airlines' recent choice to resume Sydney-Los Angeles flights starting from November 12 after the suspension of these months due to the aforementioned health emergency is not at all accidental. According to Alan Joyce, managing director of Qantas, the Australian company has been forced to give up many American and British destinations, while the future could be more positive (vaccine permitting, as the CEO himself pointed out).
