New engines for Russian Angara rocket test
Roscosmos space agency signs contract for delivery in 2022-2023
The Russian space agency Roscosmos announced in recent days that it signed a contract with the company Npo Energomash at the end of 2021, for the supply of five prototypes of the RD-191M engine. These are thrusters intended for flight tests for the development of the Angara-A5M launch vehicle at the Vostochny cosmodrome.
"The delivery of RD-191M flight units is planned in 2022-2023. Therefore, we are organizing the start of production in an advanced way, which allows us to increase the quality of planning, as well as to accelerate the mastery of new products and their introduction to the market. The test engines will be shipped after they complete autonomous testing", said the director of Roscosmos' Proton-PM subsidiary, Ivan Krasnov, who signed the agreement with the Russian company.
Proton-PM is the manufacturer of first-stage motors for the Angara space rockets. The Energomash company began development of RD-191M thrusters in early 2021 at the Perm plant, thanks to a regional investment project.
