Plane crash in Romania
Eight military personnel killed in helicopter and fighter crash

A Romanian-made IAR-330 Puma military helicopter engaged in a search and rescue mission crashed to the ground yesterday. The accident happened in the area of Gura Dobrogei, 11 kilometers from the airport of the same name. The death toll is seven and no one on board survived, according to the Romanian Defense Ministry.
The aircraft crew was engaged in a search operation for a Mig 21 LanceR military aircraft. The fighter was part of a formation of two aircraft carrying out air patrol missions. Suddenly the two fixed wing aircraft had lost visual contact and one had disappeared from radar. The jet was later found; it had crashed close to Cogealac, an uninhabited area near the Black Sea.
