Russia-Ukraine: Moscow says no to US mediation

Pentagon spokesman says Kremlin does not want to engage with Washington

The spokesman of the US Department of Defense, John Kirby, said in these hours that for weeks Russia refuses to open a diplomatic channel and negotiations with the United States. According to Washington's statements, the attempt to talk with Moscow has been going on since the beginning of the Russian armed invasion in Ukraine, which took place on February 24th, exactly one month ago.

According to a revelation of the US newspaper "Washington Post": the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, and his compatriot General Mark Milley, have received a refusal to engage from the Russian Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, and General Valery Gerasimov

"Russia is striking targets in western Ukraine, not far from the border with NATO members" and as "the air force is apparently continuing to operate from that region", so "it means there is a risk that its planes could be mistaken for NATO aircraft across the border". An analyst at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, Rob Lee, explains this. For this reason a Moscow-Washington communication axis would be fundamental.
