India: 90 pilots excluded from B-737 MAX aircraft controls

The DGCA Authority asks them for professional updating and requalification

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered that 90 pilots belonging to the Indian low-cost airline SpiceJet will refrain from operating the B-737 MAX due to deficiencies in their professional training. It was announced today by the New Delhi-based airline, stating that the cabin crew will undergo a retraining program, according to the dictates of the Civil Aviation Authority.

SpiceJet, which currently operates 11 MAX aircraft and has 144 pilots trained to take over their controls, said the restriction will have no impact on its operations. India's regulator reauthorized the operation of B-737 MAX aircraft in the country in August 2021, after a regulatory shutdown of nearly two and a half years following two fatal accidents in 2019.
