British technology company ZeroAvia has officially unveiled its newest acquisition: a 19-seat, twin-engine, turboprop Dornier 228 aircraft powered by hydrogen. It is now poised to turn its facility at Hollister Municipal Airport in the UK into a global development center for hydrogen and zero-emission aircraft engines. Testing on the ZA600 powerplant will kick off in a few months.

"We will have two demonstration aircraft powered by our hydrogen-electric thrusters this year". The test site "is the best place within a 150-mile radius of San Francisco in terms of weather conditions. This airport has the best runway configuration in terms of emergency landing spots, making it great for testing. It's also outside of major air traffic congestion, but close to areas like San Jose and Monterey that we can capitalize on", said company founder Val Miftakhov. 

The first Dornier 228 powered by the ZA600 hydrogen-electric engine will be tested in the United Kingdom as part of the HyFlyer project. Supporting the tests is the 15-ton HyperTruck truck used to test the powerplant. The company's goal is to achieve certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by 2024.
