Airline Wizz Air expands into Saudi Arabia

Mou signed with country investing in tourism

Low-cost airline Wizz Air is expanding its presence in the Arabian Peninsula with the aim to launch air links between Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. It is a decision that espouses Riyadh's goal of stimulating demand for air travel in the peninsula. In this regard, the Hungarian company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Middle Eastern country.

The agreement is part of the Saudi National Air Connectivity Program, which Riyadh's Ministry of Tourism has initiated to support the development of the sector in the Middle Eastern country. The parties will work together to facilitate possible investments and to enhance Saudi Arabia's aviation ecosystem, significantly increasing its connectivity with the European continent.

With this initiative, the Hungarian airline strengthens its presence in the region, following the establishment of branches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. At the moment, no details have been given on the routes that could be operated in Saudi Arabia, nor on the incentives that the air carrier might receive from Riyadh for starting transport services.
