Aircraft. Italy: ground and carrier workers on strike

Involved Ryanair, easyJet, ITA Airways, Volotea and Enav air traffic controllers

Day of disruption tomorrow in Italian skies. Air traffic controllers and aircrew, especially those of low-cost airlines, are on strike: from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm the staff of the Italian Company for Flight Assistance (Enav) in the area control center in Milan; arms are also crossed for employees of air carriers ITA Airways, low-cost easyJet (from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm), Volotea (from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm), Ryanair and its subsidiary Malta Air (with Crewlink).

The schedules were issued by the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (Enac) and the Strike Guarantee Commission. In any case, Italian skies regulators recall that, despite the workers' agitation, 10 domestic air connections, including routes to Sardinia and Sicily, and 18 international, particularly non-European, will be assured.

From Volotea they let it be known that there could be about 10 flights cancelled. EasyJet is still finalizing the list. ITA Airways is expected to cancel 81 flights particularly in the Milan area. Ryanair will try to reduce cancellations by using staff brought in from other bases abroad.
