Ukrainian war: Odessa attacked

After missile rain against Kiev Russian bombers strike port city

Following the Russian missile attack on the capital city of Kiev, which was hit yesterday morning by six rockets fired by Tupolev Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers that took off from the Caspian Sea, the maritime city of Odessa came under the bombs today. A Tu-22M bomber targeted the city on the country's southwestern coast, home to one of Europe's largest ports overlooking the Black Sea: the toll was six wounded, including a child.

As in the case of Kiev, the attack in Odessa took place in a residential area, where several houses and other buildings were destroyed. The affected area is about 500 square meters in size, the Ukrainian local government reports. The Odessa region, with the capital of the same name, had received virtually no direct attacks from the Russian military to date.

Meanwhile, the Atlantic Alliance makes yet another move on the seas. Canada's navy has deployed two warships: the Nscm Kingston and Summerside, one in the Baltic Sea and the other in the North Atlantic Ocean. Both join two frigates already operating in the region and their mission will last four months. The goal is to strengthen the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
