US carrier Delta Air Lines unveiled a new facial recognition-based device called Parallel Reality at Detroit Airport in recent hours. It is a system, installed at Concourse A in McNamara Terminal, designed to help transit passengers with basic information that will help improve his or her experience at the airport. 

The device consists of a large screen installed immediately after security screening. The system can handle up to 100 travelers simultaneously. They need only stand in front of the display to be recognized and called by name, directed to the correct boarding gate, and updated on times and any schedule changes. For the time being, Parallel Reality is reserved for volunteer customers. 

However, the US company is betting that facial recognition will make travelers' journeys through airports increasingly smooth. Previously, in fact, the airline has successfully tested and introduced the Digital ID system, which allows some U.S. customers to board the plane without ever having to show their tickets and IDs.
