EU aircraft and transport: enough easy visas for Russians

Air travel made more difficult, doors open to family members, journalists and dissidents

The European Commission has decided to propose a limitation on the entry of Russian citizens to the Old Continent. This will make it more difficult for those Russians to travel by plane who until now had made a stopover in a country like Turkey and then reached the Old Continent.

"There can be no 'business as usual' with Russia. We propose to completely suspend the EU visa facilitation agreement and not to recognize Russian passports issued in occupied regions. Visa facilitation is a sign of trust., which Russia's war of aggression has completely destroyed", the Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen said it.

In this way, those coming from beyond the Urals will no longer enjoy privileged access to the European Union and will have to face a longer, more expensive and more difficult visa application procedure (the fee will increase from 35 to 80 Euro and times from 10 to 15 days). Furthermore, the authorizations already issued (almost one million) could be "reviewed" as early as next week.

This is a decision, including the suspension of visas already issued, which responds to the increase in threats to the security interests of the European Union and to the national security of the Member States in the field of espionage. Doors open instead to family members of European citizens, journalists, dissidents and representatives of civil society. The new guidelines will be issued next week.
