France: first air taxi flight in Paris

The transport service could make its debut in the capital in 2024

An aircraft with Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVtol, Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing), developed by the German company Volocopter, has made its first flight in France in the past few hours. The test took place at the Pontoise-Cormeilles airport, in the hinterland of the capital Paris. It is an initiative that has the economic support of the Ile-de-France Region.

"In a helicopter, when you move a control, three things happen and it's like a coordination exercise. In this eVtol aircraft, on the other hand, it lacks all that difficulty and it's very easy to control each axis, that's what makes it easier to fly", explained test pilot, Paul Stone, in reference to the difference between flying with multiple rotors and that of a traditional helicopter.

The aircraft took off with a passenger on board and flew in short concentric turns while other aircraft were nearby. This is a further step in which the German company is getting closer to obtaining certification, preparing for the start of commercial air connections in France, whose launch is scheduled for 2024, when Paris will host the Summer Olympics Games.
