Today the NATO summit in Germany

Details of the forthcoming supply of weapons to Ukraine will be revealed

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Rammstein, Germany kicks off today, 20 January 2023. During the meeting, details on the forthcoming supply of weapons to Ukraine to support the armed forces in the war against Russia will be revealed. In all likelihood, the sending of tanks will be announced to support the escalation of the conflict that experts expect in the spring.

The United States has pledged an aid package worth 2.5 billion dollars. Military endowments include 59 Bradley armored vehicles (plus 50 promised in January), 90 Stryker armored vehicles, 53 armored anti-mine vehicles (Mrap) and 350 M998 "Humvee" transports. This brings Washington's total support to Kiev since the beginning of the war to 26.7 billion dollars.

Some countries have already announced the sending of tank weapons: the USA, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark. London has pledged to send 600 Brimstone missiles (plus 14 Challenger 2 tanks already promised); Copenhagen will supply 19 French-made Caesar guns; Sweden provides Archer self-propelled vehicles; Poland says it is ready to deliver 14 Leopard 2 tanks.

Germany is reticent to unblock the sending of Leopard 2s. The meeting is the third in the so-called Rammstein format since the beginning of the conflict (February 24, 2022). The defense ministers and senior military officials of about 50 nations will sit around the table around the US secretary of defense, Lloyd Austin.
