Drones, electric motors and helicopters; New Delhi emancipate itself from foreign countries

The "Aero India 2023" (13-17 February) air show is a vital showcase for the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event, in fact, exhibits the best Made in India products in the sector: helicopters, drones and new civil and military technologies that the executive intends to promote for internal use in the country and project into new international markets.

Among the aircraft on display are at least 15 helicopters and aircraft manufactured by the State-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Among these is the Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) rotary wing combat vehicle. It is a product presented in 2022 and which represents a decisive first step by Nuoiva Dellhi to reduce dependence on the supply of armaments from Russia and the United States.

Other interesting products on display are drones. An area in which New Delhi is trying to emancipate itself from Israeli technology. For this reason, among the 800 stands of national manufacturers, numerous and of all types can be seen: from remotely piloted armed military aircraft, to mini and nano drones for civilian use, passing through the high-altitude flight platforms Haps (High Altitude Pseudo-Satellites) up to Male (Medium Altitude Long Endurance).

Finally, a look at the technology. In the stand of the start-up Chara Technologies, the first electric vehicle motor built 100% using aluminum, copper and steel available in India, without the use of Chinese rare earths, is on display. Another sector in which New Delhi demonstrates its willingness to free itself from dependence on mineral supplies from foreign countries. The only imported part is the semiconductors.
