Italy on 2% of GDP in military spending

Crosetto (Defence): "I am the only one to have told Nato that a commitment is not easy to keep"

The Italian Defense Minister, Guido Crosetto, was today in Verona on a visit to the international "Vinitaly" exhibition, the great event dedicated to the world of wines and spirits, now in its 55th edition. During his passage through the stands, he organized a press point at the Piedmont pavilion. Many topics were addressed, including the commitment to bring military expenditure to 2% of GDP, as requested by NATO.

''All the Italian Governments up to now had expressed themselves keeping their commitment. The only one who had the courage to tell a NATO assembly (North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Editor's note) that it was not an easy commitment for economic reasons was myself. It amazes me that all those of the previous executives, who instead never said anything, have now reconsidered'', said the minister.
