USA: report on Black Hawk helicopter crash

Army Combat Readiness Center publishes Preliminary Loss Report

Published a preliminary report on the aircraft crash caused by the collision between two Sikorsky HH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, which occurred last March 30 during a night training mission near the military base of Fort Campbell, in Kentucky, which hosts the 101st airborne division of the US Army. The toll was nine victims.

The Preliminary Loss Report confirms that the accident occurred "during a night training mission, in a military operating area (airspace) designated for special use" of the Army, where the "two HH-60 aircraft collided in flight", the Army Combat Readiness Center said.

According to a hypothesis that emerged in the last few days, the accident was caused by a technical problem related to the flight with the night vision goggles worn by the two pilots. Meanwhile, the helicopters' two Flight Data Recorders are still located at Fort Rucker, Alabama, where technicians are conducting in-depth analyzes necessary to complete the military investigation into the accident, which will attempt to define the causes and reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident.
